Full Flash websites... then and now:

The early days of Flash were full of skip buttons, massive load times and clunky animation. There was no database connectivity and everyone was just modifying each others code which meant only the original designer could work on the website for support. Fun times.

Zap back to the present and full Flash websites are rarely 100% Flash due to browser incompatibilities and search engine ranking sensitivity. This doesn't worry big brands that use multiple mediums of advertising to drive people to their sites, but it is an issue to web dependent businesses that need to be found via search engines.

How much Flash is enough:

There is no doubt that when Flash is done well it lifts a website into being the equivalent of a big budget TV advert - when compared to standard static websites. The trick is to use Flash as a highlighting device by using Flash headers, banners, buttons, and functional mini-apps like Flash maps, online calculators, video players, animation, and audio.

If you really want to impress then you can always have a second website that is full Flash, accessible only from your main SEO friendly website that features a Flash header based on the full Flash site. Nice!
